OV DRAIN SERVICE & PLUMBING
Backwater Valve Installation in Milton & the GTA
Concerned about sewer water backing up into your basement? OV Drain Service & Plumbing assesses your drain layout and discusses backwater valve installation for your property.
Protection against reverse sewer flow
A backwater valve is designed to close against reverse flow in a sewer connection. The right location and valve arrangement depend on the plumbing layout and the fixtures being protected.
Sewer backups and water entering through a foundation are different problems. If your concern is seepage at basement walls or floors, we can also discuss basement waterproofing and drainage.
What an installation can involve
- Assessment of the existing sewer connection and available access.
- Selection of an installation location that remains accessible for servicing.
- Opening the floor and excavating around the drain where required.
- Valve installation and reconnection of the affected piping.
- Review of inspection arrangements and the agreed floor restoration.
Keep the valve accessible
The access cover needs to remain reachable after flooring or basement renovations. Regular inspection and maintenance should follow the valve manufacturer’s instructions. When a valve closes against a backup, affected fixtures cannot drain normally.
Questions about backwater valves
Is a backwater valve the same as a sump pump?
A backwater valve addresses reverse sewer flow. A sump pump moves collected drainage water. An assessment helps determine which measures address the water problem at your property.
Are permits or inspections needed?
Requirements depend on the municipality and project. They should be reviewed before installation. Toronto’s official flood-protection program information includes its permit and inspection requirements.
Can I apply for a municipal subsidy?
Some municipalities offer assistance for eligible work. Confirm the current conditions before starting; the municipality decides eligibility and funding. Read the City of Toronto’s official program information.
What affects the installation cost?
Drain depth, access, existing connections and restoration affect the work required. Contact us to discuss an assessment.
